Are you ready to try some Acupressure at home? This is the perfect time to give Liver 3 a little attention. This point can be found on the top of your foot, moving upward from the space between the first and second toes. You may notice this area is tender when pressure is applied.

Acupuncture is all about smooth movement. This is especially true for the Liver Channel. This point on the Liver Channel is often translated as Supreme Rushing. Whether you’re feeling stuck physically, mentally, or emotionally, stimulation of this point can offer that movement. An alternate translation of the point name is Happy Calm. I believe this comes from the ease of movement the point facilitates. When one feels angry or frustrated, the body often tenses. This rigidity does not allow for smooth flow of Qi or blood. The tension results in a number of symptoms arising and can vary from person to person. Reminding the body of ease with stimulation of Liver 3, we can create this Happy Calm through increased movement.
A famous practitioner from around 1140 AD, Ma Danyang, selected Liver 3 as one of his 12 Star Points. He claimed that of the hundreds of points on the body, none are as powerful as these twelve. Use Liver 3 to support people with various ailments and to invigorate one on the level of mind, body, and spirit.
This point is often used in the treatment of:
- Headaches
- Menstrual issues
- Vision problems
- Pain
- Digestive upset
- Excessive anger
- Anxiety, and much more.
Using needles with acupuncture allows deeper access to the point. Applying pressure superficially can offer many of the same benefits.
Invite more ease into your day and practice acupressure with Liver 3. For more tips on how to encourage movement this month, see what Krysta Howell has to say!
